What is a LUT (known as Lookup Table) - A color look-up table is a matrix of data containing information used to change an input range of colors into another one. It converts the hue of each pixel into a counterpart from the source pattern. Is a term used to describe a predetermined array of numbers that provide a shortcut for a specific computation. In the context of color grading, a LUT transforms color input values (camera) to your desired output values (final footage).

LUTs are widely used in professional image processing applications, e.g. FCPX, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, SpeedGrade, Motion, Nuke, Photoshop, After Effects, Fusion and many more…

Why Explosion™ LUTs Collection?
• Set a predetermined look for a specific visual feeling.
• Increase the speed at which you can color grade.
• Use as a reference point to develop your unique style.
• Sets the tone and mood of a film.
LUT is an important part of the filmmaker's toolkit. You can use it for mood and emotion, to tell the audience when the scene is set, or to provide information about characters and settings - adding gels to change the colour of the lighting.

LUTs are most commonly used for creating and saving colour grades, which can be used or applied to other projects.
They can also make log or flat footage come to life by adding contrast and style or converting it back into a Rec.709 colour space. You can even load a LUT into a monitor or display to calibrate it to get an idea of what the finished look of your film might be.

LUTs are a must have for any experienced or emerging filmmaker. They are used to easily create quality colors passed on from color grading experts in their field, through a LUT file. LUTs are compatible with Premiere Pro, Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve, and many more.

Say Hello to the new face of Cinematography
An Explosion LUT goes beyond normalizing the footage to a specific color space by also making creative adjustments. These LUTs are great for mimicking the look of a particular film stock, popular effect, or other stylized look. It’s not uncommon for a director, DP, and colorist to work together to create custom LUTs before production begins that can be used on set to monitor what the final images will look like more accurately. This LUT can also be applied to dailies and then brought back into the mix during post production to serve as a starting point for the final grade. Perhaps even more so than Display LUTs, Explosion LUTs should be your regular Filmmaking tool.

When a LUT is applied to an image, every pixel from that image is adjusted with the values from the table to change the visual look. The pixel can be made to look brighter, or more contrasty, or more saturated, or whatever combination is specified. LUTs can be used for quickly converting log footage to a more vibrant color format.

This process often yields impressive visual changes, but it’s remarkably simple. It just takes RGB values in, adjusts them by the parameters in the table, and then spits them back out. It’s very basic math.

I hope that using these cinema LUTs inspires you to further experiment with exciting new ways to tell your stories.
Why Color is Important to the Story?
This is where luts really helps the quality of the final piece. Luts helps by smoothing out the color from shot to shot and giving the video a more contiguous feel, evokes emotion, allowing the viewer to focus on the story.
Color grading is a necessary step of the post production process.
